Are You Having Fun Yet?

Are you having fun on a daily basis? Seriously now. Or are you carrying the weight of the world on your shoulders?

It's rather obvious, but if you are not having fun, your health could be impacted! Laughing, giggling, enjoying the beauty of nature are all great destressors and can add years of enjoyment to your life. Cultivate the habit.

Mt Whistler Bungee Jump - 165 ft. of Sheer Bliss!

You could call this Mystery Advernture Camp (for older folks who never got to play). Or you can call it Mind of Steel, Heart of Gold. In any case, it was full of surprises and our band of 42 were brave (sometimes), fearless (not quite) but everyone got to go home with all their limbs still attached. We learned to turn fear of stuff into excitement and plow through to ecstasy.

This camp capped off the trilogy of camps I started back in 2005. Enlightened Warrior camp July 2005 taught me about the strong energy of achievement and getting things done.

Wizard camp in 2006 put me in touch with nature, the creation and I learned about manifesting hearts' desires. (How do you think I was able to build this business? Not without a lot of internal work and learning some basic sound principles.)

One lesson of my camp experience was that I needed to have more fun in my life. How about you?

Here's to fun:

Yes!

And Away I Go!

I always wanted to be Superman.

NOW wait a minute! I better hold on to something!

The River sure looks pretty!

I wasn't the only one to have fun!

Old Dog learns new tricks - qi gong

Every morning of the Camp at 6.00 am we started with a Qi Gong practice. Sarah led us in this very ancient practice that appears to be the foundation of all martial art forms.

Sarah had been a yoga practitioner prior to suffering a spinal injury and could no longer do twisting poses. Then she heard of and met Master Peng who came from the Shaloin monastery in China to teach Qi Gong in Canada. The movements are very slow and deliberate and almost meditative. I just got my notes from Sara by email and am excited to see what I can remember, since I was doing this mostly in my sleep at camp. 6.00am! :)

Fix those shoulders - Part II:

There was a lot on interest in the Shoulders Exercise I added to the last email, so I was inclined to share another. This is a good one.

In Yoga, we call these circles of love. In a standing position or seated on a stool, interlock your fingers in front of you, inverse your palms and stretch your arms straight ahead. Hold for a breath or two and bring your arms back.

Then with fingers still interloced stretch your arms above your head with your palms facing the sky or ceiling.

The last move is the most fun. Interlock your fingers behind your back and move your shoulders forward. This will cause your chest to stick out and your shoulder wings will touch. Lift your arms as high as is comfortable, try to reach your edge.

Repeat as often as you want. Enjoy!

Join a Men's or women's Support Group

Part of our camp was to spend a few hours in segregated by gender work groups. Men need men to watch their backs and women need women to support them in various aspects of life. If you don't have a group of the same sex to support you in certain aspects of life, it can be difficult to get the lessons needed to continue to grow and blossom into the fullness of our humanity.

In my men's group, part of the exercise was to face another man, be quiet and contemplative and get a message of help for the other man. One of my juniors told me I need more joy in my life. I had to agree.

Q and A:

Q - There is so much advice on the Internet about what to do and what not to do in terms of health. How can I know who to trust or what to believe?

A - True enough. A great question. It's very difficult to get all your questions answered on your doctor's visit. Doctors of course are dedicated folks who spend years in training and once they get into practice they not only have to pay off all those loans they incurred but they also have to pay the utilities, the salaries and the heavy insurances they are mandated to carry in order to be in business.

You may get 7 minutes with your doctor. Use them wisely. I ALWAYS take a spiral notepad with me and have my top questions jotted down that I need answers to.

In Baltimore, I found a medical doctor with a natural inclination towards holistic health. Dr. Bill Pawlek has a private practice and he will give you 90 minutes of his time for a session and you can get a lot of questions answered in 90 minutes. It's not free but once in awhile you have to get to the heart of the matter.

Without such resources, we have to get educated and the Internet makes it easier than ever to do so. Yes, there is a mixed bag of ideas and thoughts and theories, practices and experiences.

Yes, they must be sifted through and managed with your own experiences. Don't believe everything you see on TV that Big Pharma is promoting, common sense teaches you better than that. Also don't believe every blog you read or Internet ad you see. Along with common sense you have instincts and gut reactions to the veracity of what you encounter, use it.

In the preponderance of opinion there is some safety. Use doctors, chiropractors, nutritionists, and health coaches as your guides and above all, remember it is your body and your responsibility to stay healthy. We are not going to get it perfect everytime but as long as we are climbing towards the goal of optimal health, then we are doing the best we can.

Stay fit through exercise, intelligent nutriiton and have fun. Don't take everything so seriously. There is a time and season for all things. Enjoy your life. If you can say each morning as you first open your eyes, "I love my life!" Then you are on the path!

Quick Tip:

Even if you live in the middle of Manhattan you can be somewhere in the mountains, by a river or beach within 45 minutes. No matter where you live, it's good to get a spark back into your life by visiting a park, going for a boat ride, kayaking or canoeing, ride a bike. Do something to get your shoulders away from your ears!
